About This Community

Mi Casita is a warm, family-style retirement home in Lake Chapala. It is dedicated to dementia, Alzheimer’s, and palliative care, with the staffing and routines built specifically around residents who need that level of support. They also accept short term convalescent stays for people needing temporary care, like those recovering from surgeries.

The home has an outdoor patio with tropical plants, a shaded patio, and a busy living room where residents spend their afternoons together. The two floors are connected by an elevator, and there are ramps, bathroom grab rails, and support chairs throughout for safe, easy movement. There are 13 private rooms across the property, with private bathrooms.

The care starts at $2,100 USD/month. There is 24/7 nursing care, housekeeping, laundry, 3 meals a day plus snacks, professional manicure and grooming, and daily exercises and occupational therapy programs. A monthly doctor checkup is also included.

Mi Casita is pet friendly, but requires proof of vaccination and a cost add-on to cover the additional housekeeping. You will still have to cover their food and vet costs, but Mi Casita will help arrange their grooming and vet checkups. They can also help you find a trusted dog walker if needed.

The home is located in the center of San Antonio Tlayacapan, a lakeside town between Chapala and Ajijic. Hospital San Antonio and lakeside Medical group are less than 5 minutes away, and Guadalajara’s International airport is 45 minutes away. The home is also very close to restaurants, a supermarket, the town’s plaza, and many short-term housing options for visiting family members.

Mi Casita was founded more than sixteen years ago by a registered nurse who graduated from University of Guadalajara’s School of Nursing and spent years working in Lakeside clinics and providing home nursing before opening her own residence. She still leads the day-to-day care alongside a full team of nurses on staff. The team also offers in-home care and can arrange to bring a resident down from the United States. They’re COFEPRIS-licensed and compliant with civil protection standards and NOM-031-SSA3-2012.
