Villa QQ Independent Living is a boutique residence in the historic center of Chapala, on the north shore of Lake Chapala in Jalisco. The property was once one of the Chapala homes of English writer D.H. Lawrence, who stayed here in 1923 and drew inspiration for his novel The Plumed Serpent, and several of the suites are named after his books. In 1940 the acclaimed Mexican architect Luis Barragán added architectural details to the building, and in 1954 the American artist Roy MacNicol acquired the property and built the pool. From 1978 it operated as the Hotel B&B Quinta Quetzalcóatl, and in 2019 a group of international investors restored it into what is today Villa QQ Independent Living. The name keeps the original “QQ” of Quinta Quetzalcóatl, carrying its identity forward.

The location is one of its biggest appeals, as it sits just half a block from the Chapala Malecón. It is also within walking distance to the Cristiania Park, the old railway station, and the municipal market.
