Casa Sonya Living

Casa Sonya Living is a small, boutique option for assisted living on Lake Chapala, tucked into the Chulavista neighborhood of San Antonio Tlayacapan, near Ajijic. It sits one block up from the main carretera that runs along the lakeshore, so the Super Lake market, restaurants and shops are only a few blocks away, and the bike path is easy to reach. The cobblestone street out front is well kept and looks out toward the hills.

The house was converted from a private home into assisted living, and several of the residents are still happily independent. It is genuinely boutique, with room for just five, and the private rooms each have their own bathroom. The outdoor spaces are the heart of the place: a heated pool, a garden, and a lovely covered lounge where residents like to gather.

Daily life includes three meals a day adapted to each resident’s dietary needs, physical therapy, and a doctor’s checkup once a month, and the home is pet friendly. Every Wednesday the residents get together with those from the sister home, Casa Sonya La Floresta, for live music and shared activities between the two houses, which keeps the social side of Lake Chapala retirement feeling warm and connected.
