Loving Care

Loving Care is a nursing and memory care home in San Antonio Tlayacapan, on the Lake Chapala lakeside, built for residents who need a higher level of daily support. It is run by Laura Mejía, a registered nurse and the daughter of Alicia, founder of Alicia’s Convalescent Center, one of the first care homes at lakeside. That lineage means years of hands-on nursing experience shape how the home cares for people today. Pricing starts at $33,000 MXN per month (around $1,950 USD).

The home is a two-story colonial-style villa set around a garden and a large curved pool, with a shaded palapa and an open patio where residents can sit outside. Arched ground-floor windows and sliding glass doors open onto the pool terrace, and the upper floor looks out over the grounds toward the mountains. Inside, a sweeping curved staircase with non-slip treads connects the two levels, and an elevator makes every floor reachable for residents who cannot manage stairs. Ramps run throughout and there are grab rails in the bathrooms, so people with limited mobility can move through the whole home safely. Rooms are large and private, and because the home keeps only a small number of residents, each person receives close, attentive care.

The location is one of its biggest draws. It sits just one block from the San Antonio Tlayacapan malecón, and staff take residents on strolls along the waterfront when they are up for it. For residents living with dementia, the home stays securely locked, so families can rest knowing their loved one is safe and cannot wander. Out back there is a pool (not heated), a garden, a sports court, and a resident dog that is part of everyday life. Care includes round-the-clock nursing and three meals a day, with the nearest hospital under five minutes away.
