Casa Sonya Care

Casa Sonya is a small, boutique home for nursing and memory care in La Floresta neighborhood in Ajijic. Converted from a private home into senior living, it sits half a block up from the carretera that runs around the lake, close to everything but tucked away from the noise.

The outdoor spaces are stunning and perfect for enjoying Ajijic’s perfect weather: a heated pool, a garden, and a covered lounge where residents like to gather through the day. The space is extremely accessible: all flat, no stairs, no ramps.

Care at Casa Sonya follows the Montessori approach to memory care, a method built around what each resident can still do rather than what they’ve lost. In practice, that means familiar, purposeful activities like setting the table, tending the garden, or folding laundry, daily routines that offer real choices, and spaces with visual cues that help residents do things for themselves. The goal is to preserve dignity and confidence, and to ease the anxiety that comes with dementia without leaning first on medication.

Daily life includes three meals a day adapted to each resident’s dietary needs, physical therapy, and a doctor’s checkup once a month. On Wednesdays, residents gather in the garden for live music and lunch through Magical Music Wednesday, a dementia-friendly gathering hosted by Lakeside Memory Neighborhood, an uplifting way to keep the social side of retirement warm and connected.

Sonya and her husband run this home and its sister house in Chulavista, working closely with a caregiver team that treats every resident like they’re family.
