Buhayra Living

Buhayra Living is a small senior community in Riberas del Pilar, a residential neighborhood between Ajijic and Chapala. The name itself sets the tone: “”Buhayra”” means lake in Arabic, and the architecture draws its design inspiration from the secret gardens of 12th-century Andalusian Spain.

Stepping through the entrance, you’re met by a central fountain courtyard with traditional Mexican colonial architecture all around it: arched brick doorways, wooden doors leading into the residents’ rooms, terracotta tile floors, and shaded dining areas with hand-laid bóveda brick ceilings and wrought iron chandeliers. An outdoor pool sits surrounded by mature trees and lush gardens, and a separate rooftop terrace looks out over the neighborhood and mountains.

The community has eighteen private rooms, each with a private bathroom. The property is fully accessible, with an elevator and easy passage for wheelchairs and walkers throughout the common and outdoor areas. Care is structured around different levels of support, from light assistance through full nursing care, and memory care is available for residents with dementia or Alzheimer’s.
